The Theophilos Museum is located in the suburb of Vareia, just 3.5 km from the town of Mytilini. In 1965, Teriade donated the space to the Municipality of Mytilini, together with 86 paintings by Theophilos from his private collection; paintings that draw on subjects from history, folklore and mythology. Adjacent to the Theophilos Museum is the Museum of Modern Art/Stratis Eleftheriadis-Teriade Library, which opened in 1979. Here you can admire works of great artists, such as Baudin, Bores, Chagall, Giacometti, Gromaire, Layrence, Le Corbusier, Leger, Matisse, Miro, Picasso, Vakirtzis, Theophilos, Kalligiannis, Kanellis, Marouda, Rorri and Tsarouchis, all from Teriade’s private collection.
